Insurance companies require a diagnosis that becomes part of your permanent record. Frequently, the problems people have are not illnesses but arise from situations, life transitions, life styles, trauma, early life experiences, or learned patterns of coping. These are difficult to categorize in the way insurance companies expect.
Some insurance will pay for only a certain number of sessions. Most often circumstances require more sessions to reach resolution than is allowed by your coverage.

Coming to see a therapist takes courage. Making that first phone call may be difficult for you. If you feel tentative, remember that I do what I do because I care about people like you. Whatever may be bothering you, keep in mind that you have strengths, possibly more than you know. Together we ascertain these strengths and how they help you.
My approach to therapy is from a systemic point of view. What that means is you are part of a family, live in a community, and have connections with those people. Therefore, you do not live your life in isolation from these influences around you. We will take into account how these connections impact your life and use them to explore ways to make the changes you are keen to make.
Therapy sessions are generally one hour. During your first appointment we will complete paperwork, get to know each other a bit, discover the nature of your problem and set goals.
Usually sessions are
weekly. Arrangements can be made for every other week if weekly
sessions are impossible. Therapy sessions separated by more than two
weeks usually occurs only when illness or vacation is an issue for you or
for the therapist. |

The duration of therapy can range from 4 sessions to over 40 sessions. People come with different kinds of problems and life situations. Although I may be able to give you an estimate, ultimately you are responsible for that decision.
